Ask the First QuestionAbout Toshiba printers
Toshiba Tec makes office MFPs under the e-STUDIO brand. The company has a dedicated print division that survived the wider Toshiba restructuring of 2017, and the e-STUDIO line continues to be developed and sold worldwide. Strong dealer presence in North America. The brand competes against Konica Minolta, Sharp, and Ricoh in the mid-volume office MFP space, with similar feature sets and finishing options.

Common Toshiba printer problems
Service Required PM (preventive maintenance) message
Toshiba tracks page count against the PM schedule and displays a service required message when due. The MFP keeps printing past this warning, often for thousands more pages, but the message reappears. PM kits include drum, developer, fuser, transfer belt, and rollers. Usually a Toshiba service tech installs them under a service contract. Self-install is possible on smaller e-STUDIO models with the service manual and 1 to 2 hours.
Toner motor error (E550 or similar)
Toner cartridge not seating correctly, or the toner motor is stuck. Remove the cartridge, check for paper or debris in the toner cartridge slot, reseat firmly. If the error persists, the toner motor gear may be jammed, which needs a service tech. Common after a toner spill.
Scan to folder (SMB) failing on Windows 11
Older e-STUDIO models default to SMBv1, disabled by default on Windows 11. The fix is to update the MFP firmware to a version that supports SMBv2 (released for most e-STUDIO models in 2021 and later). For older units that cannot be updated, scan to email or scan to USB drive is the practical workaround.
Address book replication across multiple e-STUDIO units
Toshiba e-BRIDGE Cloud Connect or eBN can replicate address books across multiple MFPs in the same network. Set up from TopAccess (the embedded web server), Administration, Maintenance, Import/Export. Manual export to CSV, edit, import to other units also works for smaller fleets.
Fax line connection failed
Toshiba MFPs with fax modules need an analogue line, RJ-11 jack. VoIP lines (SIP) usually do not work reliably for fax, even with T.38 enabled. If your office switched from POTS to VoIP, you may need a separate analogue line or a fax-over-email service. The MFP itself does not have a fix for this.
Toshiba drivers and downloads
Toshiba business drivers are at business.toshiba.com/support. Search by model. The Toshiba Universal Printer Driver 2 (UPD2) covers most e-STUDIO models with one Windows install. Mac drivers are a separate download. e-BRIDGE Plus is the embedded apps platform with its own SDK for custom workflows.
What to buy and what to skip
e-STUDIO 478CS is a good A4 colour pick for small offices, e-STUDIO 3025AC for A3 colour mid-volume, e-STUDIO 2528A for high-volume mono. Pricing typically tracks the Konica Minolta and Sharp equivalents. Service contracts including toner make the running cost predictable, evaluate against the alternative of buying toner separately and running the warranty out at the 5-year mark.
Toshiba printer FAQs
Is Toshiba still in the printer business?
Yes. Toshiba Tec is a separate division from the rest of Toshiba and was not affected by the broader Toshiba breakup in the late 2010s. The e-STUDIO line is actively developed and sold globally.
Does Toshiba e-STUDIO support cloud print?
Yes via e-BRIDGE Cloud Connect, which adds Box, Google Drive, OneDrive, and Dropbox connectors to the touchscreen. Also supports AirPrint, Mopria, and Google Cloud Print successor (Cloud Connector). All current models, most models from 2019 onward via firmware update.
How much does e-STUDIO toner cost?
OEM Toshiba toner is mid-priced for the office MFP market. Comparable per-page cost to Konica Minolta. Third-party compatible toner is available from established suppliers but quality is more variable than for the bigger brands (HP, Canon). Stick with OEM for high-volume colour, third-party is fine for mono.
