Ask the First QuestionAbout Kodak printers
Kodak exited the printer market in 2014, and existing Kodak inkjets (ESP, Hero, EasyShare lines) are no longer manufactured. Replacement ink cartridges are still made by third parties for the most popular models. Driver downloads and firmware are still hosted by Kodak at kodak.com/support, but no new drivers are being written, so compatibility with newer operating systems is fading.
Kodak product lines
ESP
Home all-in-one inkjets. ESP 3, 5, 7, 9 series, plus the ESP C series. Used Kodak 10 series ink cartridges.
Hero
The last Kodak home inkjet line before the company exited. Hero 5.1, 7.1, 9.1. Used Kodak 30 series ink. Better print quality than the ESP series.
EasyShare
Photo-focused dock printers. EasyShare 5300 and Printer Dock series. Print 4x6 photos via thermal dye sublimation. No drivers needed for the dock-only models.
Common Kodak printer problems
Printer not recognised on Windows 10 or 11
Kodak stopped releasing new Windows drivers around 2014. The last official package supports Windows 7 and 8. On Windows 10 and 11, install the Windows 7 driver in compatibility mode, or use the printer in plug-and-play mode where Windows installs a generic IPP driver. Plug-and-play loses scanning and ink level monitoring but printing works.
Ink cartridge not detected
Kodak inkjets are picky about cartridge contact alignment. Pop the cartridge out, clean the gold contacts on the cartridge and the printer with a dry pencil eraser or a coffee filter (no liquid), reinsert. If the cartridge has been refilled, the chip may need resetting with a Kodak chip resetter, which third-party sellers still produce.
Printhead errors on Hero and ESP
Kodak printheads are user-replaceable, unlike most inkjets where the head is integral to the cartridge or the printer body. New Kodak 30 series printheads are still available from third-party sellers. Replace as a complete unit. The printer will auto-align after a fresh printhead.
Wireless connection drops
Kodak wireless printers only support 2.4GHz WiFi and older WPA2 personal encryption. If your router uses WPA3 or has band steering, the printer will fail to connect. Set up a 2.4GHz only SSID on WPA2 personal, connect the Kodak to that, leave it alone.
Black not printing
Common on Kodak inkjets that have sat unused. Run two cleaning cycles from the printer control panel, then print a nozzle check. If gaps remain in black, swap the black cartridge. Kodak inks dry out faster than most because the printers store cartridges in a less-sealed cradle.
Kodak drivers and downloads
Last available Kodak printer drivers are at kodak.com/printersupport. Drivers are Windows 7 and 8 era. macOS support stops at macOS 10.12 Sierra for most models. For newer OS versions, use the printer through AirPrint (if your model supports it) or the generic Windows IPP driver.
What to buy and what to skip
Do not buy a Kodak printer in 2026. The brand has been out of the inkjet market for over a decade, ink cartridge supply will dry up within the next few years, and driver support is frozen. If your current Kodak still works, keep using it until ink or driver compatibility forces the move. Then replace with an Epson EcoTank or a Brother MFC.
Kodak printer FAQs
Where do I get ink cartridges for an old Kodak printer?
OEM Kodak ink is increasingly hard to find. Third-party Kodak 10 and Kodak 30 series cartridges are still produced and sold through Amazon and ink specialist sites. Quality varies. Choose sellers with refund guarantees.
Will a Kodak printer work on a Mac?
On older macOS (10.12 and earlier) yes, with the official Kodak driver. On newer macOS only via AirPrint, which most Kodak All-in-Ones support. AirPrint gives you basic printing, nothing more.
Are Kodak inks really cheaper than the alternatives?
That was Kodak's pitch in 2010, and it was true at the time. Today the running cost depends entirely on third-party cartridge prices, which have crept up as demand has fallen. Modern alternatives (EcoTank, Smart Tank, MegaTank) all beat Kodak on cost per page now.
