Resolve HP Envy 5660 Offline Issue
If your HP Envy 5660 keeps showing “offline,” fix it quickly by reconnecting Wi-Fi, repairing the printer port, clearing stuck jobs, and reserving the IP. Follow these steps in order to bring the printer back to “Ready.”
Reconnect to Wi-Fi
On the touchscreen, tap the Wireless icon > Settings > Wireless Setup Wizard. Choose your 2.4 GHz network, enter the password, and wait for the confirmation check. If you changed the password recently, this step is essential. For WPS, tap Wi-Fi Protected Setup and press the router's WPS button when prompted.
Print a Network Report
From the wireless menu, print a Network Configuration or Wireless Test report. Confirm status is Connected and note the IP address. Avoid guest networks with client isolation; they can cause “offline” even when the printer is connected.
Use HP Smart to Repair
Open the HP Smart app, click + or Add Printer, and follow prompts to reconnect. If HP Smart cannot find the printer, temporarily connect a USB cable and let the app push Wi-Fi settings. After pairing, remove the cable and print a test page from HP Smart.
Fix Offline Status in Windows
Go to Settings > Bluetooth & devices > Printers & scanners, select the Envy 5660, and open the queue. Cancel stuck jobs. Click Printer and uncheck Use Printer Offline. Then open Printer properties > Ports and ensure the selected port matches the current IP or is an HP network port. If it points to an old IP, add a new Standard TCP/IP port with the correct address. Restart the spooler (or reboot) after changes.
Fix Offline Status on macOS
In System Settings > Printers & Scanners, remove the printer with the minus button, then click plus to re-add it. Choose HP Smart or the HP driver in the Use field rather than AirPrint if available. If the printer does not appear, add by IP using the address from your network report and protocol IPP. Send a test print.
Stabilize the Network
Reserve the printer's IP in your router so it doesn't change. Keep the printer on 2.4 GHz; place it near the router or main mesh node. Turn off client isolation and MAC filtering during setup, or add the printer's MAC afterward. Disable VPN on your computer while troubleshooting to allow local discovery.
Firmware and Driver Updates
Check HP Smart or the Embedded Web Server (enter the printer's IP in a browser) for firmware updates. Update HP Smart and reinstall the full feature software if the driver seems corrupted. On Windows, remove old HP software before reinstalling to avoid conflicts.
Power and Placement
Plug the printer into a wall outlet (not a surge strip) to avoid voltage drops. Place it within strong Wi-Fi range and avoid enclosing cabinets that weaken signal. If your router uses band steering, ensure the printer and computer end up on the same subnet; temporarily separate 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz SSIDs during setup if needed.\n
USB as a Temporary Fix
If you must print immediately, connect via USB. Once USB printing works, the hardware is fine—focus on repairing the Wi-Fi setup. Remove duplicate printers later to avoid confusion in print dialogs.
Quick Recovery Checklist
- Reconnect to Wi-Fi with the Wireless Setup Wizard (or WPS).
- Print a network report and note the current IP.
- Use HP Smart to re-add; use USB temporarily if discovery fails.
- On Windows, clear jobs, uncheck “Use Printer Offline,” and set the correct port.
- On macOS, remove/re-add or add by IP with the HP driver.
- Reserve the IP, update firmware/drivers, and keep VPN off while testing.
Follow these steps and your HP Envy 5660 should move from “offline” back to “ready,” staying connected for future jobs.
