Samsung Wireless Printer Setup
Samsung wireless printers (including Samsung Xpress and older ProXpress models) can be reliable once they’re connected to the right Wi‑Fi band and installed with the correct driver. Because Samsung’s printer division is now supported by HP, setup tools may appear under either “Samsung Printer Software” or “HP Smart.” This guide covers the most common ways to connect a Samsung printer to Wi‑Fi, add it on Windows and macOS, and keep it from going offline later.
Before You Start
Put the printer near your router for the first connection. Most Samsung home/office printers use 2.4 GHz Wi‑Fi only, so confirm your router broadcasts a 2.4 GHz SSID and that you know the exact password. If your router combines 2.4 and 5 GHz into one name, temporarily split them during setup so the printer clearly joins 2.4 GHz. Disable VPN on the computer you will use for installation.
Method 1: WPS Push‑Button Setup
Many Samsung models have a WPS or Wi‑Fi button. To connect with WPS:
- Power on the printer and wait until it is idle.
- Press and hold the printer’s WPS/Wi‑Fi button until the wireless LED starts blinking.
- Within two minutes, press the WPS button on your router.
- Wait for the wireless light to turn solid. That means the printer has joined Wi‑Fi.
If WPS fails, confirm WPS is enabled in your router settings. Some mesh systems disable WPS; in that case use Method 2 instead.
Method 2: Wireless Setup via Software (USB‑Assisted)
For models without a screen, the easiest setup uses a temporary USB cable to transmit Wi‑Fi credentials.
1) Download the latest driver package for your Samsung model from HP’s support site (search your model number, e.g., M2020W, M2070FW, C430W). 2) Run the installer and choose Wireless Network Connection. 3) When prompted, connect a USB cable from printer to computer. 4) Select your Wi‑Fi network, enter the password, and let the tool send it to the printer. 5) When the installer confirms the printer is on Wi‑Fi, unplug the USB cable and finish installation.
Method 3: Wi‑Fi Direct (No Router)
If you don’t have a router, many Samsung printers support Wi‑Fi Direct. Enable Wi‑Fi Direct from the printer’s Network menu (or by holding the Wi‑Fi button until a “Direct” light appears). Print a network report to see the Wi‑Fi Direct SSID and password. On your phone or laptop, join that SSID, then add the printer using AirPrint/Mopria or the Samsung/HP app. Remember that Wi‑Fi Direct disconnects your device from normal internet until you switch back.
Add the Printer on Windows
After the printer is connected, open Settings > Bluetooth & devices > Printers & scanners and click Add device. Select your Samsung printer when it appears. If Windows doesn’t find it, choose The printer that I want isn’t listed and add by TCP/IP using the printer’s IP address from the network report. Install the model‑specific driver rather than a generic PCL driver so you get correct toner status and paper presets.
Add the Printer on macOS
On macOS, go to System Settings > Printers & Scanners and click plus. If the printer appears as a Bonjour device, select it and add. If it doesn’t appear, click the IP tab, enter the printer’s IP, choose IPP or LPD, and select the Samsung/HP driver if offered. AirPrint works for many models, but the vendor driver may expose duplex, toner save, or tray options.
Mobile Printing
For iPhone/iPad, Samsung printers that support AirPrint will appear automatically once on the same Wi‑Fi. Print from any app via Share > Print. If AirPrint does not show the printer, install HP Smart or Samsung Mobile Print (older models) and add the printer there. For Android, enable Mopria Print Service or use HP Smart/Samsung Print Service Plugin for direct printing.
Fix “Printer Not Found” or Offline Problems
If the printer won’t show up or keeps going offline:
- Wrong band: Ensure the printer is on 2.4 GHz. Split SSIDs temporarily if needed.
- Guest isolation: Don’t connect the printer to a guest SSID that blocks local devices.
- IP changes: Reserve the printer’s IP in your router so Windows/macOS ports stay valid.
- Firewall/VPN: Disable VPN and allow printer discovery through your firewall during setup.
- Stuck queue: Clear pending jobs and restart the Windows Print Spooler or re‑add the printer on macOS.
Print Quality and Maintenance Tips
Samsung laser printers are low‑maintenance, but faded text or streaks are usually toner/drum issues rather than Wi‑Fi. Remove the toner cartridge, gently rock it side to side to redistribute toner, and reinstall. Clean the paper path if you see repeating marks. Replace toner or imaging units when the panel indicates low life. Use dry paper and keep tray guides snug to prevent skewed feeds.
Quick Checklist
- Use a 2.4 GHz network; keep printer near router for setup.
- Connect via WPS, USB‑assisted software, or Wi‑Fi Direct.
- Install HP/Samsung model drivers on Windows/macOS.
- Add by IP if discovery fails; reserve IP for stability.
- Use AirPrint/Mopria or HP Smart for mobile printing.
Follow these steps and your Samsung wireless printer should join Wi‑Fi cleanly and stay available for every computer and phone on your network.
